WE WERE PROMISED JETPACKS, It’s Thunder and It’s Lightning (from These Four Walls LP)

These Four Walls is the debut LP from Scottish band We Were Promised Jetpacks. What can I say, another album that is close to perfection, in my humble opinion. It made my top 10 list of 2009. It’s Thunder and It’s Lightning is more for those of you out there that can enjoy a loud, emotive song (for those who like the more mellow end of the sound spectrum, check out Conductor). All I can say is that I love those feverish guitars and angry drums, and cannot wait to drown in them at a live show (they’ll be on a tour this winter).

These four guys got together in 2003, while still in high school (they even entered their school’s “Battle of the Bands” and won!). Their sound definitely has a tang of that sincere youngster eagerness to charge forward and conquer it all. The intense energy of the songs is incredible, making it very hard to resist hitting the replay button when it’s over. I really do look forward to seeing what else comes out of this band, as they continue to mature and channel a new variety of influences.

I once again had difficulty selecting my favorite, so here are a couple more options for your judgment: The album single, Quiet Little Voices, and the particularly tumultuous This Is My House, This Is My Home.
